Conference Hall Sound Quality Design Standards

2025-05-29
  With societal progress, government agencies, enterprises, hotels, etc., all need multi-function halls and conference halls to accommodate activities like opera, song and dance performances, music concerts, movie screenings, and meetings.
  Multi-function halls and conference halls require good auditory effects. Besides needing good sound equipment, acoustic design is essential to provide a suitable acoustic environment.
  To ensure the acoustic environment of multi-function halls and conference halls, the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Culture promulgated the "Code for Design of Theaters" (JGJ57-2000) in February 2001. It requires that architectural acoustic design be integrated into the entire process of architectural and interior design, and specifies the acoustic indicator for auditoriums – reverberation time T60:
  Auditorium Reverberation Time Settings
  Frequency Characteristics
  125Hz
  250Hz
  500Hz
  1000Hz
  2000Hz 4000Hz
  Reverberation Time(S)
  1.10~1.68 1.10~1.54
  1.10~1.40
  1.10~1.40
  0.99~1.40
  0.88~1.40
  Note: Auditorium volume 2000~10000 M³
  The formula for calculating reverberation time T60 is: T60 = 0.161V /〔-Sln (1-α ) + 4mV 〕
  Average Room Absorption Coefficient: α =(∑S i α i+ ∑N j α j)/ S
  Where: V – Room volume, M³;
  S – Total internal surface area, M²;
  α – Average room absorption coefficient;
  m – Air attenuation coefficient (M⁻¹);
  S i – Surface area of each part, M²;
  α i – Absorption coefficient corresponding to surface S i;
  N j – Number of people or objects;
  α j – Absorption coefficient corresponding to N j.
  As seen from the formula above, achieving the T60 requirements in the table depends mainly on selecting absorption materials with high absorption coefficients across low, mid, and high frequencies, since room volume and total surface area are difficult to adjust. This ensures low, mid, and high-frequency reverberation times meet the requirements. (Conference halls primarily focus on low frequencies.) Using inferior materials would require much more material or highly absorptive seating, significantly increasing total project costs. Using high-performance absorption panels like Qinyi, due to their high absorption coefficients across frequencies, requires less quantity or allows the use of seats with lower absorption coefficients, achieving good acoustic effects at a lower total investment.
